We are convinced that the transformation of our society requires the participation and commitment of all; this is why many of our partners and associates actively participate in non-profit activities for the common good.

This is done through:

ENTREPRENEURAL ASSOCIATIONS

Entrepreneurship is one of the key actors of our society that permanently participates in the discussions of national issues. Headrick participates in the activities of the following associations, whether directly as a member or through its partners:

National Council of Private Enterprises (CONEP by its acronym in Spanish)

It is the apex of the entrepreneurial organizations of the country, comprising practically every entrepreneurial association of the country and the majority of the large and medium sized enterprises. Since 2003, Marisol Vicens, Senior Partner of the Firm has enjoyed a long career in CONEP, representing it before organizations as the National Council for the Social Security in forums as the discussion of the National Pact for the Reform of the Electricity Sector, and for years, she has been the coordinator of the Hydrocarbon and Energy Committee. Since 2010 she has been a member of its Board of Directors, sitting as Vice-Secretary.

National Association of Young Entrepreneurs (ANJE by its acronym in Spanish)

Some partners of the Firm are members of this important association. In 2003 Marisol Vicens served as its president and Francisco Alvarez and Sarah De León, both partners of the Firm, have been members of its Board of Directors.

Confederation of Employers of the Dominican Republic (COPARDOM by its acronym in Spanish)

It represents the interests of private employers before domestic and foreign organisms as the Ministry of Labor, the National Council for the Social Security and the International Labor Organization (ILO). Marisol Vicens, Senior Partner of the Firm is its former president.

American Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAMDR)

The American Chamber of Commerce of the Dominican Republic participates actively in the discussion of economic and commercial issues. It has an active legal committee which Mary Fernández, Founding Partner of the Firm is a member of. She has also served as its president and is currently a member of its Board of Directors. Likewise, many associates of the Firm collaborate with this committee.

Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic (AIRD by its acronym in Spanish)

It is the apex of the industrial associations of the country, and it plays a very active role in the discussion of all economic, commercial, financial and regulatory issues. Marisol Vicens, Senior Partner of the Firm is AIRD’s legal consultant since 2004.

Chamber of Commerce and Production of Santo Domingo

In addition to its functions as the chamber of commerce of the capital city of the Dominican Republic, it manages the Mercantile Registry of the companies that are registered in Santo Domingo, which represent the vast majority. It also houses and manages the Center for Alternative Dispute Resolution. Mary Fernández, Founding Partner of the Firm is a member of said Center and several of the partners are included among their list of arbitrators. For many years, Marisol Vicens, Senior Partner of the Firm served as Vice-Secretary of the Board of Directors of this Chamber.

CIVIL SOCIETY INSTITUTIONS

Participación Ciudadana

Participación Ciudadana is a nonpartisan civic movement that actively works to promote and discuss the political, institutional and democratic reforms required by the Dominican Republic. Francisco Alvarez, Senior Partner of the Firm has served as its coordinator twice and is currently an active member of its political committee.

Foundation for Institutionalism and Justice (FINJUS for its acronym in Spanish)

It is the civil society’s leading institution in matters concerning institutionalism and justice. Mary Fernández, Founding Partner of the Firm was a member of its Board of Directors for many years and even served as its president. Other partners of the Firm collaborate with the institution by participating as exhibitors in workshops, seminars, panels, etc.

ACADEMIC INSTITUTIONS

The National Judiciary School

Headrick has a permanent relationship of collaboration with this school that endeavors to train all members of the Dominican Judiciary. They have teamed up to carry out diverse activities and publications like Headrick’s Legal Compendium, seminars and educational workshops for judges, etc. In collaboration with the School, William C. Headrick, Founding Partner and current “of counsel” of the Firm, has published works and has taught courses to its members.

Iberoamerican University

Several of our partners are either graduates or have been lecturers of this important private university. In collaboration with this academic institution, Headrick has published several works by William C. Headrick, Founding Partner and current “of counsel” of the Firm, who has also taught seminars in said institution.

Technological Institute of Santo Domingo (INTEC)

It is the leading private university for economy and engineering related careers. Mary Fernández, Founding Partner of the Firm is a member of its regency council.

NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS

The Centers for the Diagnosis and Advanced Medicine and of Medical Conferences and Telemedicine (CEDIMAT by its acronym in Spanish)

These centers are considered among the most modern health institutions, not only of the Dominican Republic, but of Central America and the Caribbean. They operate under the direction of an honorific board of which Marisol Vicens, Senior Partner of the Firm has been a part of since the year 2004. In addition to providing health services to all the Dominican population, including the most vulnerable people who do not have a medical insurance nor can assume the costs, it continuously undertakes medical sessions and has saved the lives of many children and adults thanks to the help of the philanthropists that cooperate with its work.

Santo Domingo Tennis Club (popularly known as “LA BOCHA”)

It is one of the most important private sports clubs of the country and has served sports training and recreation for decades. La Bocha has been particularly distinguished for its teaching of tennis and for organizing the Davis Cup rounds in the country. Roberto Rizik, Founding Partner of the Firm has served as the president of its Board of Directors for many years.

Pro Bono Organizations:

Headrick is a member of TrustLaw, the members-only service of the Thomson Reuters Foundation, which offers lawyers and pro bono managers an easy way to connect with non-profits and social entrepreneurs seeking free legal help.

Headrick has signed onto the Pro Bono Declaration of the Americas, managed by The Vance Center. This Center advances global justice by engaging lawyers across borders to support civil society and an ethically active legal profession.
